Muskerry Local History Society Programme for 2009/2010 season.

Saturday September 26th 2009. Field trip to Rockfield Farm, Kilcrea (by kind invitation). Meet at Ovens Church car park 2.45 p.m. Talk on lime's role in farming and construction through the ages by a member of the Society.

October 20 Local history societies' exhibition at Cork City Hall.

October 27. Ballincollig's contribution to 125 years of the Gaelic Athletic Association. Speaker: Aubert Twomey.

November 17. The American Naval Base in Bantry Bay during World War 1 and its impact on the local community. Speaker: Ted O'Sullivan.

December 15. Joseph Higgins, Sculptor, life and works. Speaker: Dermot O'Donovan.

January 19, 2010. The story of Crossbarry and subsequent withdrawal. Donal O'Flynn slide show.

February 16. Tracing family history. Speaker: Richard Forrest.

March 23 The West Cork Railway. Speaker: Maurice McCarthy.

April 20. The Munster Institute and its influence on general agriculture. Speaker: Dr Liam Downey.

May: Field trip date and venue to be decided.

Lectures take place at Ballincollig Rugby Club premises (by kind permission) at 8 p.m. Society membership for the season is available for ten euro. Lectures are also open to non-members at a fee of three euro per night.
